Vistaite Jasper Rough (Possibly Skaggs) – Stunning Blue, Green, and Purple – Old Timer Coveted Collection
This stunning large Jasper could be Vistaite or Skaggs Jasper - identification is uncertain, as the piece came from a collection of an old timer who deeply coveted both. Either way, it is a spectacular specimen with stunning blue and green plus purple. It also somewhat reminds of certain Kaleidoscope Jasper varieties, though this material would long predate Kaleidoscope and would come from a different location than what an old-timer of this era would have collected.

Vistaite is old stock Oregon stone mined in the Ochoco Mountains with an unfortunate history. It was a highly popular stone when actively mined, but the National Forest Service spent considerable funds to cover the deposit, making it undiggable. Any rough on the market is generally old stock material. It often has a blue-green tint and can sometimes have rolling hills pattern. Skaggs Jasper is also from the Ochoco Mountains - exhausted for decades, with material found mainly in old estate collections. Skaggs is a dominant green jasper and often features organic-like structures. Both Vistaite and Skaggs are extremely rare on the modern market.
WHAT MAKES IT SPECIAL
At over 17 pounds, this is a massive cutter from a collection of an old-timer who coveted both Vistaite and Skaggs. Blue, green, and purple together with a faint Kaleidoscope-like quality makes this an extraordinary investment-grade chunk regardless of which of the two it is.
