This beautiful slab of Velvet Obsidian features bright magnetite and velvety wavy flows throughout, creating a mesmerizing visual effect. Mexican Velvet Obsidian displays a velvety appearance with color flashes in green, gold, and purple that shimmer when moved. It produces impressive cabs and offers an engaging cutting experience for lapidarists. Large quantities were imported in the 1960s, but the mine is essentially depleted. Most current material is old stock. Also known as Royal Velvet Obsidian, it represents one of Mexico's finest volcanic glass varieties.
