Sarape Jasper Slab – Silicated Jasper from the Crazy Lace Mines of Mexico
Measurements (inches - longest - approx): 4.5 x 3.6 x .22
Sarape Jasper (also spelled Serape Jasper) is a colorful and highly silicated form of jasper collected from the Crazy Lace Agate mines in Mexico. Sometimes referred to under the name Zebra Jasper by other miners, this material is named after the traditional Sarape blanket—and for good reason. Its intricate, banded patterns resemble woven textile designs, often blending reds, blacks, creams, orange, and grays into eye-catching layers.
Sarape Jasper shares visual similarities with Crazy Lace but has its own distinct characteristics. Its higher iron content contributes to the bold red and black coloration, while its silicated makeup ensures excellent durability for cutting and shaping. It’s a favorite among lapidary artists thanks to how easily it cuts and how beautifully it polishes to a high gloss.
