This very rare old stock rockhounding classic from Prineville, Oregon is one of the original herringbone petrified woods to reach the market. It shows woodgrain pattern on the outside, and the back end still displays the herringbone pattern, evidence that it runs all the way through. The deposit has been dug out and closed for decades, and this is the largest specimen the seller has seen.

Prineville Herringbone Petrified Wood is an old stock form of petrified wood from near Prineville, Oregon. This material was mined on a private ranch whose owners barred all rockhounding decades ago. What specimens remain are in very high demand, as they were an old Oregon classic and once a well-known and iconic form of herringbone petrified wood. The material tends to cut very dark in its natural state, with the herringbone pattern emerging as an amazing display, similar to Hells Canyon Herringbone Petrified Wood.
WHAT MAKES IT SPECIAL
This piece has been sun bleached to expose the herringbone pattern, and it can also carry veins of agate. A personal collection centerpiece, cut when acquired decades ago from an old-time Central Oregon rockhound.
