This slab is a retapped old vein Crazy Lace Agate! Old Vein Crazy Lace has some wild and crazy patterns that make some really unique scenes, but it does have some softer minerals like Calcite and Feldspar, and will more than likely need to be treated before polishing or cabbing. When you look at this slab, it is well worth it though!

Crazy Lace Agate is a highly popular and attractive Agate from the Desert of Mexico! Crazy Lace has some awesome and amazing Lace and bright vivid colors! It can take a great polish, and work into some stunning designer grade cabochons! Crazy Lace can have lots of different varieties and scenes! It has so many different patterns and colors to work with!

Lace Agate forms underground, in small gas pockets in volcanic material. These function similar to caves, and Lace agate is more like a stalactite formation. Silica rich water drips over time, creating multiple layers. Different minerals being present in the water creates different colors, and the drip formation is what gives it the pattern. If you look closely, you can see the original stalactites that had formed.

In the event of the old vein, it appears that feldspar was the original volcanic material it attached to. Feldspar is an Aluminum Tectosilicate, and is a crystal byproduct of high silica magma. If you look closely, you might be able to see the lace attached to the original crystal shape.
