Description
This slab is a retapped old vein Crazy Lace Agate. This material also goes by the name of Bubble Lace. Old Vein Crazy Lace has some wild and crazy patterns that make some really unique scenes, but it does have some softer minerals like Calcite and Feldspar and will more than likely need to be treated before polishing or cabbing. When you look at this slab, it is well worth it, though.
Crazy Lace Agate is a highly popular and attractive Agate from the Desert of Mexico. It has excellent lace and bright, vivid colors. It can take a great polish and work into stunning designer-grade cabochons. Crazy Lace can have lots of different varieties and scenes. It has so many different patterns and colors to work with.
Lace Agate forms underground, in small gas pockets in volcanic material. These function similarly to caves, and Lace agate resembles a stalactite formation. Silica-rich water drips over time, creating multiple layers. Different minerals in the water create other colors, and the drip formation gives it a pattern. Looking closely, you can see the original stalactites that had formed.
In the event of the old vein, it appears that feldspar was the original volcanic material it attached to. Feldspar is an Aluminum Tectosilicate, a crystal byproduct of high silica magma. You might see the lace attached to the original crystal shape.
