Here's a gorgeous very large slab of velvet obsidian showing some great velvety pattern all the way throughout. This one was cut at a good angle and could make a nice display, some good knife blades, or some amazing cabochons. Slabs of this size are very rare with this material, and this is one you won't want to miss out on.

Mexican Velvet Obsidian displays a velvety appearance with color flashes in green, gold, and purple that shimmer when moved. It produces impressive cabs and offers an engaging cutting experience for lapidarists. Large quantities were imported in the 1960s, but the mine is essentially depleted. Most current material is old stock.
