This stunning old stock slab of Velvet Obsidian shows off some of the neat Royal Peacock pattern. This slab is nice and solid and is going to make some really neat cabochons. Velvet Obsidian comes from a Mexican mine that is essentially depleted, so most current material is old stock.

Mexican Velvet Obsidian displays a velvety appearance with color flashes in green, gold, and purple that shimmer when moved. It produces impressive cabs and offers an engaging cutting experience for lapidarists. Large quantities were imported in the 1960s, but the mine is essentially depleted. Most current material is old stock. Also known as Royal Velvet Obsidian, it represents one of Mexico's finest volcanic glass varieties.
