One HALF Pound Random Pull Mexican Velvet Obsidian Rough!
Mexican Velvet Obsidian is a higher quality obsidian with loads of magnetite that create the velvet like pattern and flashes within! It often features many different colors, and it works into some truly amazing cabochons! It takes an excellent polish and generally cuts fracture free! It is a personal favorite of mine, and I have never been let down while cutting up batches of these! They can also make awesome pendants or can be great for wire wrapping projects!
Mexican Velvet Obsidian can also be tumbled with great results! This tends to remove the skin and let more light in so you can see the color better, and it also takes a mirror grade polish as it is a volcanic glass! It does take some special care though, but it is 100% possible to get great results! We recommend doing the start of the polish with a rotary tumbler, and finishing with a vibra-tumbler, but great results are possible with just a rotary tumbler. As of right now the majority of our stock is tumbling rough sized. This is the size most velvet comes out of the ground. If you need larger than tumbling sized chunks, please contact us before placing an order to confirm if we have any in stock. We are actively working to try and secure more trimmer and cutting sized chunks, as I know some of you love them. These are great tumblers though, and if you have a tumbler, we highly recommend trying a batch!
All in this listing are random pull. Velvet Obsidian can have a skin that covers the pattern, and you may receive some like that. Half a pound is often about half a handful, and generally includes 4-8 chunks, but can sometimes be more or less. Each quantity purchased is for one half pound. Some Mexican Rainbow with light velvet pattern can be found, but very few exist in the random pull pile. Photos shown are a representation on the grade. Individual chunks photographed are ones with less skin, allowing the magnetite/flash to shine through.
These have all been sorted to have every single one hopefully be good quality workable material. No high grade has been removed from the random pull pile!
