📝 Material Overview
-
Moss Bed Thundereggs – World-famous Oregon thundereggs prized for their vivid colors, streamer moss formations, and occasional druzy tubes. Once open for hand digging, the deposit is now closed, making old stock highly collectible.
-
Bamboo Jasper – Indonesian jasper known for its bamboo-like banding patterns. Highly silicated, it cuts into strong cabochons and is valued for its unique structure and rarity.
-
Fire Horizon Agate – A Mexican lace agate with fiery orange tones and cloudy, bubble-like contrasts. A newer material that has quickly become a favorite among collectors.
-
Maury Mountain Moss Agate – An old-stock Oregon classic that helped define moss agate. Known for its multi-colored moss inclusions and polishability. Rarely found today except in old collections.
-
Wonderstone – Volcanic rhyolite with striking bullseye and swirl patterns. Nevada Wonderstone is especially valued for its reds, purples, and tans, cutting easily into designer cabs.
-
Hawkeye Tiger Eye – Naturally blue tiger eye, prized for its silky luster and bold chatoyance. Much rarer than golden tiger eye, producing striking high-contrast cabochons.
-
Crazy Lace Agate – A Mexican agate with bold lace banding, swirling patterns, and vibrant colors. Long popular among lapidary artists for its dynamic cutting potential.
-
Arizona Rainbow Petrified Wood – Iconic petrified wood from Arizona, world-renowned for its vibrant colors and fossilized grain. Mostly sourced from private land since much of the Petrified Forest is protected.
-
Septarian Nodules – Fossil-rich nodules often containing calcite, forming geodes or solid interiors with intricate patterns. Popular for cabbing, carving, and display specimens.
-
Saddle Mountain Petrified Wood – A Washington State Miocene fossil wood, ~15 million years old, with detailed bark textures and wood grain. Old stock material is prized since new digs are for personal use only.
-
Red Lightning Agate – Old-stock Mexican agate with striking red moss, blue agate patches, and unique mineral inclusions. Increasingly rare and highly collectible.
-
Parker Shrinkwood Petrified Wood – From Parker, Colorado, this fossil wood is characterized by silica-filled fractures that give a checkered “shrinkwood” look. Dates to the Late Paleocene, ~66 million years ago.
📏 Additional Notes
-
Natural Stone: Expect natural fractures, inclusions, and pits formed during creation. These are normal and add to the geological character.
-
Photos: Stones are unpolished unless otherwise specified. All photos except the last two are taken wet to show cutting potential. The last two are taken dry to reveal natural surface details.
