Apple Valley Jasper comes from the same Sahara Desert location as Apple Valley Agate but is actually a fossil stromatolite. Stromatolites formed from cyanobacteria colonies trapped in sediment layers and are among Earth's earliest known fossils. This stromatolite jasper commonly shows bright reds with distinct banding and can feature hematite flowers that create eye-catching cabochons. This material has limited future availability, as imports to the United States are expected to cease.
