Apple Valley Jasper comes from the same Sahara Desert location as Apple Valley Agate but is actually a fossil stromatolite, making it a fascinating specimen for fossil collectors. Stromatolites formed from cyanobacteria colonies trapped in sediment layers and are among Earth's earliest known fossils, dating back billions of years. This stromatolite jasper commonly shows bright reds with distinct banding and can feature hematite flowers that create eye-catching cabochons.
WHAT MAKES IT SPECIAL
The combination of flowing patterns and hematite flowers creates visual movement rarely seen in fossil material. The oolitic texture adds geological interest to this limited availability material.
