Apple Valley Jasper comes from the same Sahara Desert location as Apple Valley Agate but is actually a fossil stromatolite, making it a fascinating specimen for fossil collectors. Stromatolites formed from cyanobacteria colonies trapped in sediment layers and are among Earth's earliest known fossils, dating back billions of years. Each layer represents a geological event, with mineral content determining colors and patterns. This stromatolite jasper commonly shows bright reds with distinct banding and can feature hematite flowers that create eye-catching cabochons.
WHAT MAKES IT SPECIAL
The combination of black druzy and hematite flowers on flowing pattern is exactly the look that has made Apple Valley Jasper a sought-after stromatolite. Substantial cutter with multiple slabbing strategies available.
PERFECT FOR
• Slab production
• Cabochon cutting
• Stromatolite fossil collectors
