Wascoite is a type of agate found near Wasco, Oregon, and is a byproduct of a Biggs Picture Jasper mine in the area. For years this material was thought to be just common agate, but after cutting and experimenting, its unique beauty was quickly discovered. It often has a strata of coffee and cream-like colors with small areas of transparent agate creating visual depth. Wascoite can sometimes have neat blue or white drusy crystal structures inside or outside of the stone, adding natural sparkle and character. Also known as Biggs Coffee Agate or China Hollow Agate, this material tends to be very solid and takes a mirror polish for exceptional finished pieces.
