This stunning Wascoite shows great opal pattern along the outside with dense, highly silicated agate on the inside. This material also went by the name Coffee Agate, and this piece is a great demonstration of why. A nice example of a byproduct stone from Oregon’s famous Biggs Picture Jasper mines.

Wascoite is a type of agate found near Wasco, Oregon, and is a byproduct of a Biggs Picture Jasper mine in the area. For years this material was thought to be just common agate, but after cutting and experimenting, its unique beauty was quickly discovered. It often has a strata of coffee and cream-like colors with small areas of transparent agate creating visual depth. Also known as Biggs Coffee Agate or China Hollow Agate, this material tends to be very solid and takes a mirror polish.
