📝 Material Overview, History, and Geology
Tahoma Agate is a rare seam agate from Washington State, long regarded as a beloved rockhounding classic. The material is collected from a challenging, hard-to-reach locality near Mount Rainier in the Snoqualmie-Baker National Forest. According to collectors, reaching the site even requires carefully shimmying along a cliff face, adding to both the difficulty and mystique of obtaining this stone.
The name “Tahoma” comes from the indigenous name for Mount Rainier, which translates to “The Supreme Mountain.” Tahoma Agate often contains both agate and jasper, which has led some collectors to call it Tahoma Jasper. Regardless of name, the material is stunning, combining scenic qualities and bold patterns that have made it highly collectible for decades.
