Prineville Herringbone Petrified Wood is an old stock form of petrified wood from near Prineville, Oregon. This material was mined on a private ranch whose owners barred all rockhounding decades ago due to lack of respect for their property. What specimens remain are in very high demand, as they were an old Oregon classic and once a well-known and iconic form of herringbone petrified wood. This material tends to cut very dark in its natural state, but upon bleaching it usually exposes the herringbone pattern in an amazing display, similar to Hells Canyon Herringbone Petrified Wood.
WHAT MAKES IT SPECIAL
Cut and proven status means the herringbone is confirmed visible. This material is famous for its dramatic bleach reveal, transforming dark natural cuts into striking herringbone displays. No longer mined after the source ranch closed to rockhounds decades ago.
PERFECT FOR
• Cabochon cutting (especially after bleaching)
• Slab production
• Oregon petrified wood collectors
