Old Stock Sheen Obsidian Mix – Glass Butte, Davis Creek & Mexican Varieties (Gold, Silver Sheen, and/or Rainbow)
This hand-selected batch of rough, unpolished sheen obsidian includes material from classic localities like Glass Butte (Oregon), Davis Creek (California), and/or Mexican Rainbow Obsidian, featuring gold sheen, silver sheen, and occasional rainbow flash. Most of this material is pulled from an old stock collection and is believed to have been originally dug prior to the 1970s.

This is B–C grade rough, lightly sorted and sold as a random mix. While some light sheen may be visible on select pieces, this is not high-grade sheen. These pieces often appear like standard black obsidian in normal lighting. The shimmering sheen is only visible under bright, directional light and when angled correctly.
The pieces in this mix range in size from tumbling-grade fragments to larger cutter-sized chunks. Some are also suitable for knapping arrowheads, blades, and other flaked tools, thanks to obsidian’s natural conchoidal fracture and glassy breakage. This makes the lot great for both lapidarists and flintknappers looking to experiment or practice.

Important Note:
If stone size is important to you, please leave a note with your order specifying preferred sizing (e.g., larger cutter pieces vs. smaller knapping fragments), and I will do my best to accommodate your request during packing.
Please remember this is a mid-grade sheen mix, best for those who enjoy discovering hidden potential in rough material. Sheen in obsidian is highly angle- and light-dependent—patience and positioning are key!
Natural Stone & Fossil Disclaimer:
All of the stones and fossils offered here are natural materials formed over millions of years through geological and organic processes. As a result, it is completely normal for them to exhibit natural fractures, pits, inclusions, voids, and other surface or internal features that reflect their ancient origins.
These characteristics are not flaws—they are part of what makes each piece unique. We encourage you to review all product photos carefully and research the properties of each material before purchasing to ensure it meets your expectations.
If you have any questions about a specific piece, feel free to contact us before ordering.
