It produces impressive cabs and offers an engaging cutting experience for lapidarists. Large quantities were imported in the 1960s, but the mine is essentially depleted. Most current material is old stock. Also known as Royal Velvet Obsidian, it represents one of Mexico's finest volcanic glass varieties.
