Crooked River Limbcast is an agatized formation from the South Fork of the Crooked River in Crook County, Central Oregon. Limb casts form when tree limbs and roots are buried, decay over time leaving perfect molds, and the resulting voids fill with quartz, agate, and chalcedony, preserving the outer shape of the original plant material in stunning detail. This material is famous for its pink and green color combinations, with classic specimens showing pink fortification agate flowing into bright green moss agate. Old stock material from the original digs is increasingly difficult to source.
WHAT MAKES IT SPECIAL
Documented provenance from Shirts Quant, one of Central Oregon’s legendary rockhounds, makes this far more than just a rough chunk. The tube structure in the central agate combined with mossy pattern and blue agate creates a museum-grade half round. Intended for display only, not cabbing.
