Carey Plume Agate Rough – Bright Red with Translucent Agate – Shirley Quant Discovery
This neat Carey Plume Agate shows bright red with clear translucent agate, plus a striking moon-like void with crystal druzy at its center. While direct plume is not visible from this angle, the oxidation patterns on the exterior suggest plume could appear when cut from another orientation. Carey has not been mined in over 20 years, making any rough a collector grade rarity.

Carey Plume Agate was discovered by Shirley Quant decades ago and became an Oregon classic due to its bright red plume and well-defined moss agate characteristics. The material hasn't been mined in over 20 years, making it a rare Oregon plume variety sought by collectors. It takes a quality polish and was a favorite for cabbing among vintage rockhounds. Many old stock collections include at least one Carey cab, testament to its popularity during Oregon's golden age of agate collecting.
WHAT MAKES IT SPECIAL
The moon-like druzy void in the center is an unusual feature that could anchor a striking designer cabochon. Oxidation patterns outside also suggest hidden plume at the right angle.
