Badger Pocket Petrified Wood is among the world's most rare lapidary-grade petrified woods. Badger Pocket was mined in the 1940s in what is now the Yakima Valley Firing Range. Only one sycamore tree of this material was ever extracted, and every piece comes from that original tree. Even 80 years later, this material remains wildly popular, as it represents one of the finest petrified sycamore trees ever discovered. During World War II, the location was converted into a firing range for explosive rockets and mortars. Sadly, if any additional material existed, it has likely been destroyed, as the site remains an active military testing facility today.
WHAT MAKES IT SPECIAL
This slab displays the prime sycamore pattern that made Badger Pocket famous across the lapidary world. As old stock material from a single tree with no possibility of new finds, this is a truly irreplaceable specimen.
