Apple Valley Jasper comes from the same Sahara Desert location as Apple Valley Agate but is actually a fossil stromatolite, making it a fascinating specimen for fossil collectors. Stromatolites formed from cyanobacteria colonies trapped in sediment layers and are among Earth's earliest known fossils, dating back billions of years. Each layer in this fossilized material represents a geological event. This stromatolite jasper commonly shows bright reds with distinct banding and can feature hematite flowers. This material has limited future availability, as imports to the United States are expected to cease.
WHAT MAKES IT SPECIAL
Each wavy layer in this endcut represents millions of years of bacterial growth from one of Earth’s oldest fossil records. A display-ready slab with deep paleontological depth.
